A special festival edition of the WordPlay poetry series returns to bring you some of the best poetry and spoken-word allstars, just for SkyLines festival 2022!

Casey Bailey, Peter Raynard and Fran Lock bring thought-provoking new poetry to the stage at B2. Hosted by Nine Arches Press.

 

About the Speaker(s):

Casey Bailey is a writer, performer and educator, born and raised in Nechells, Birmingham. Casey is the Birmingham Poet Laureate 2020 – 2022. His second full poetry collection Please Do Not Touch was published by Burning Eye in 2021, hiss first was Adjusted (Verve Poetry Press, 2018). Casey’s poetry is published in journals including Poetry Birmingham Literature Journal and in anthologies published by Emma Press and Verve Poetry Press. A number of organisations have commissioned pieces from Casey, including the BBC he has performed his poetry in Edinburgh, London, Liverpool, Birmingham, France, India and many other places.

Peter Raynard is the editor of Proletarian Poetry: poems of working class lives featuring over 150 contemporary poets. He is an associate editor of Culture Matters and former member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen. His two books of poetry are Precarious (Smokestack Books, 2018) and The Combination: a poetic coupling of the Communist Manifesto (Culture Matters, 2018). He has written two plays on the Arab Spring, which were performed in Brighton (2012) and London (2014). His poetry is widely published and he lives in St Albans. His third book Manland will be published by Nine Arches Press in 2022.

Fran Lock is a poet, activist, editor, essayist, and proud pit bull parent. She is the author of numerous chapbooks and nine poetry collections, most recently Hyena! Jackal! Dog! (Pamenar Press, 2021). The second book in the Hyena Cycle, Hyena! Hyena! will be published by Poetry Bus Press later this year. A new pamphlet, Forever Alive, is forthcoming from Dare-Gale Press, and her collection of hybrid lyric riff, White/ Other, is due from the 87 Press this autumn.
